Welcome to My New Blog

Sherry Burditt, RN, HN-BC Blog 2 0

Welcome. My name is Sherry Burditt, RN, HN-BC, author of The Gift of Addiction. I’m so happy to have you as a visitor to my blog about my new book. This project is very special to me, and I hope to share some of that excitement with you here.

I’ll be using this blog to interact with you about The Gift of Addiction, expanding on some of the topics in it and blogging on some of the ideas related to my book. This is a great place for you to get to know me, and I’m looking forward to getting to know you, too. What did you think of The Gift of Addiction? What questions do you have for me? How do you relate to my book?

I’ll be returning here frequently with new posts and responses to feedback from you. Until next time, tell me a little bit about yourself.

DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?

Without interruption, these DARK beliefs and feelings will surely lead to more losses, as Addiction has assumed control, and is in the process of systematically removing any real hope of recovery. The consequences are dire, and in a matter of time there will be a new chapter…, HOSPITALS, INSTITUTIONS, or DEATH.  This we know to be true, as the balance of power has been lost.

HOW TO EVALUATE WHAT FEELS HOPELESS

1. Consider the phrase, “I’m not done yet”, and honestly assess how this belief has been responsible for your choices and decisions. What is the strength of this belief (or reservation) at present? Here are some exercises that may help bring more clarity to the situation:

  • Take a pen and pad of paper and add the title, “I’m not done yet!”, then let your pen write without stopping for 30 minutes. What did you learn?
  • Next paragraph, “These are the consequences of this choice”. Write for another 30 minutes describing your choices and their consequences.

2. What is DENIAL? How does it apply to your current dilemma?  Write……………………

3. What is INTEGRITY? How does it apply to your current dilemma?  Write …………………….

4. What have I learned about my subconscious desires and expectations? Write …………………….

5. What would my next relapse look like? ………………………

6. Can I now “Take My Power Back?”   (I have within me the God-given wisdom to understand this “path”, and act in my best interest!!)  Write ……………………..

WHAT DOES “TAKE MY POWER BACK”  MEAN TO ME?

Again, with your trusty pen and paper, write on this subject for 30 minutes. (Tip: When writing, don’t stop and evaluate, or edit what you have written…, just keep writing from the “heart not the head” until your intuition tells you it is complete)

What have you discovered? ♥
